Why hire a gardener in winter?

You will find more articles and useful information in our social networks

This is a question our customers often ask. We always answer, that a gardener is not needed either in winter, or in spring, or at any other time of the year, if you take care of your garden for yourself. But if the Customer does not have the desire or time for that, then the gardener must take care of the garden.

Then they ask us: what will he do and how often will he come?

Most often, a visit from a gardener is necessary once a week, in order to have control over what is happening in the garden. At the same time, there are cases when he will not physically do anything, but will has to see certain things and determine when and what have to be done further. That is why, the work of a gardener may be considered more of intellectual work, then the physical one, like the work of a cleaner, for example. A cleaner (he or she), working most usually once a week, clearly understands the amount of work (estimating the quantity of dust and dirt on the object, etc.), and what kind of chemicals be necessary to use on it.  He or she does, practically, the same work every week, because the space around is static: the ceilings, walls and furniture do not change during the week. In the garden it is a completely different matter: there are many constantly changing living organisms and that is why, the gardener must neatly analyze the changing situation and react on it, respectively.

But, as well as Customers are accustomed to pay money for certain actions, that take place, so we will list, what the gardener does, besides being constantly analyzing the situation:

  1. Insulation of the root system of bushes (hilling up).
  2. Insulation of the above-ground parts of plants (wrapping).
  3. Wrapping and fixing plants.
  4. Removing snow from plant branches.
  5. Avoid snow burns on bushes.
  6. Avoiding ice crust on the lawn.
  7. General cleaning (leaves, branches, etc.).
  8. Removing insulation from plants.
  9. Moisture-charging watering of plants.

All this must be done in a timely manner, taking into account, what the weather was like in previous months, what it is like now and what the predicted temperatures are. Because, with insulation, if you may not be able to do it in time,  the scion on the plant may would freeze, or, if you may do it too early, the plant may would become steamed and frozen. The same goes for removing insulation. We will talk in more details about each of the processes in the following posts.
